Here's how it works.

Talk to a Director About Your Kiddo

It all starts with Epigenetics.

There is a LOT to learn about epigenetics.  To put it simply - EVERYTHING we are exposed to can affect how our genes express themselves.

Everything from pregnancy conditions, nutrition, stimulation like active time, screen time, and ACEs, to things like family culture, communication styles, and environment, can affect the way our genes express themselves which directly affects the way the brain develops.

By providing a proper environment, we can actually change that genetic expression to affect brain function in a positive way.

How your brain develops

Your brain develops from the bottom/back of your skull to the top, and then the back-forward.  It develops this way in layers, starting with your brain stem and developing up through sensorimotor, cognition, and executive function.  The concept of layers is important, because if any developmental milestones are missed within any layer of development, it causes issues with development in all of the layers that follow.

Primitive Reflexes

One of the major developmental milestones that is often overlooked is primitive reflex suppression.  A large majority of people with neurobehavioral disorders have primitive reflexes that did not integrate correctly.  This is vital to brain function because primitive reflexes are located in the brain stem, which is the very first layer of development.  Primitive reflexes should be suppressed around 1 year old.  Look through the slideshow below to see the symptoms associated with each primitive reflex along with what reflexes look like in a baby (Chances are, you've seen a few of them, you just didn't know the name!)

Disruption in brain stem development can also cause issues with the other functions of the brain stem, such as digestion and sleep.
Hemisphericity
After the brain stem, the rest of the brain is (mostly) split into two hemispheres.  When primitive reflexes aren't suppressed, it inhibits development in sensorimotor, cognition, and executive function with a larger weakness one one hemisphere, depending on epigenetic factors.

Here is a little about what a weakness in either hemisphere will look like.

The good news
The brain is changeable!  Primitive reflexes can be suppressed, hemispheric balance can be restored, and the symptoms associated with neurobehavioral disorders can disappear - medication free!

In our workshops, LifeHAC coaching, and professional development, you will learn more about how to change genetic expression, suppress primitive reflexes, and strengthen the weaker hemisphere for yourself, your child, and/or your students - all in a way that is built around your typical daily routine!
